Two More Rounds To Go For Öncü

Can Öncü (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) will ride in the first of two back-to-back weekends that complete the 2024 FIM Supersport World Championshiop season, at the Autodromo do Estoril, in a few days’ time.

The penultimate 2024 event, to be run between 11-13 October, will be another chance for Can and his pit crew to take a podium finish to add to his career total of 14 in WorldSSP - all secured while riding Kawasaki machinery within the overall Kawasaki Puccetti Racing set-up.

The most recent WorldSSP round was held at Motorland Aragon, with the vast Spanish facility different in some ways from the more compact and almost stadium feel of Estoril. One unmissable common component is a main straight preceded by a long final corner, propelling the riders towards the start/finish line in dramatic fashion.

After what is now the regular Friday Superpole qualifying session to determine Race One’s grid positions, the first race is scheduled for 18 laps of the 4.182km long Portuguese circuit. The nine fastest laps set during that Saturday race will determined the top nine riders on the grid for Race Two on Sunday 13 October.

Mexican rider Guillermo Moreno (Viamo by MTM Kawasaki) will take part in the Estoril round on a Ninja ZX-6R.

Can Öncü, stated: “I like the Portuguese track; it’s very flowing in some places, technical in others and a lot of fun. In recent years the Ninja ZX-6R has gone well there and I hope that’s the case again this year. We haven’t been seeing the results we deserve and so I’ll be doing my best to really harness all our efforts and hard work at Estoril.”

Manuel Puccetti, Team Principal, commented: “This will be one the last outings for the 599cc Ninja ZX-6R before we focus on preparations for the 636cc machine, which we will campaign in 2025. For sure we will give the current bike a good send off at these last two rounds as it has made many memories for our riders, the team and fans.”

One weekend after the Estoril round the season finale will take place at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto in Spain, between 18-20 October.
