Livia Lancelot second in France

Livia Lancelot overcame misfortune to retain the leadership of the FIM World WMX Women's Motocross Championship after finishing second in her home GP at Saint Jean D'Angely in western France.

The Team One One Four Kawasaki owner-rider was confident of success in front of her home country fans after posting fast times in practice but the opening moto on Saturday evening quickly became a torture as a stone jammed her front brake mechanism just a few corners into the race and she frustratingly had to follow the two leaders as she came to terms with the handicap. Forced to find new lines she was never quite able to make the pass and then disaster struck three laps from the finish when a lapped rider cut across her path and, unable to brake effectively, she crashed and lost a position to finish fourth. In the second race on Sunday morning Livia quickly moved to second place and four laps from the end of the race she took the lead despite stiff resistance from her closest rival in the championship. Livia now leads the series by seven points with three rounds remaining.

Livia Lancelot: “For sure it’s nice to be on the podium, but it’s not what I was expecting. I was so disappointed after the first race; it was tough to accept this incident. I was unlucky. I got a stone in my front brake after a few corners and I had to do all the race without a front brake. The race was long, I had to find new lines and I came back behind the two leaders but in one of the last few laps a lapper changed her line and I couldn’t brake so I crashed. That’s racing, let’s hope that I will not have any more troubles this year ! The second race was nearly perfect, I got a good start and when I came second I looked for some different lines and I took the lead to win this race. I keep the red plate and that’s important; now it seems that my main rival for the championship will be Nancy. The goal will be to take some good points in Mantova and Switzerland before the last round in the sand of Assen.”
